I regret to announce that due to an increasingly busy crochet life, Stitch-Stirrers is placed on hold. Right now, I have no idea when I’ll get back to it. Ah, the season of love is upon us. Or is it? While some of us look forward to receiving flowers and candy, some others of us totally loathe the day. Whether you’re a fan of Valentine’s Day or you oppose it with a passion, this challenge is still about crocheting as much as it is about the day.

Crochet your valentine, or at least part of it. It can be anything from lace added to a card or hearts given out to friends. It could even be an amigurumi anti-Valentine’s day creature. Maybe you like to crochet food and chocolate made with yarn is the way to go. Or a crocheted flower bouquet. The ideas are endless. You don’t have to write your own pattern unless you want to. Just use your skills and create a crocheted Valentine for someone you love, even if it is yourself!

It’s a question many of us have been faced with often, while others haven’t:

If someone new to crochet who had never really picked up a hook or someone who wanted to advance their skills were to ask you for some good materials for learning, what’s the best resource(s) you’ve found on the subject of crochet, on-line or otherwise that you would suggest?

It’s hard to believe a new year is well underway. This post was intended for the first day, but better late than never, as they say.

This is a big mission, or at least big for some of us, so it’ll last the entire year.

A new year is always a great time to get that creativity pumping and create something new, like, let’s say, a big project. One that covers you when you’re cold, yet looks attractive sitting on the back of the couch or draped over your favorite chair. Yes, for this mission, create an afghan/blanket then share the pattern with the rest of us, as well as the finished product by the first of December ‘08. Or, if you prefer, submit that pattern to a publication of your choice (but still show us what you did). It can be as elaborate or as simple as you wish. The most important thing is it be an original by you and that you have fun creating it.

There will be check points throughout the year, giving a chance to talk about your progess and what you are doing. There will also be other SS prompts, challenges, and missions to keep you crocheting along the way.

So, what are you waiting for?

December is here, and so is the Spirit of Giving. I know many crocheters have already been crocheting some of their gifts for friends & family, but let’s take it a step further, shall we? Your mission is to give the gift of crochet this holiday season, not just to those you know, but for someone you don’t know as well. There’s hospitals that need baby hats, shelters that need mittens, strangers who just need a little holiday spirit (in crochet form, of course!). Perhaps you could teach someone to crochet. Or maybe there’s a bagger at your local grocery store who always bags your items just the way you like them. No matter who it is, pick someone to add to your gift-giving list–someone who isn’t a family member or a friend–crochet him or her or them a small item, gift it, then share the love with the rest of us. Tell the rest of the Stitch-Stirrers how your crocheting holiday is going.

Here in the states, we’re about to celebrate Thanksgiving day, so it would be fitting to talk about things we’re thankful for. Even if you don’t live in the states, you still have things to be thankful for, right? Sure you do.

What are ten things you are most grateful for? They can all be crochet-related, but we all know there’s more to life than hook & yarn. Hmm, or is there?

Last week it was the fave; this week it’s the least favorite. Which of your hooks is the one you dislike using the most–the one you gladly size up or down for just to avoid using it–the one you’d change brands over–the one that just doesn’t get much attention (but still gets much love because hey! it’s still a crochet hook!)?

It seems that most crocheters feel the same about hooks as they do yarn: You can never have too much of a good thing. Do you own a multitude or just a few? Which out of the hooks you own is your absolute favorite–that one hook you couldn’t live without? What makes that hook so special?
